Drunk Driver Leads CCSO On Wild Chase
A drunk driver led Cocke County deputies on a chase through the county Monday night, which finally ended in Jefferson County. The sheriff’s office was notified about a drunk driver coming from Gatlinburg swerving at oncoming traffic with the intent to run vehicles off the road. Deputies made contact with the suspect on Cosby Highway at Middle Creek Road and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled up Cosby Highway towards Newport going into oncoming traffic on Cosby Highway driving at high speeds and attempting to strike other vehicles.
The pursuit got to I-40 where the driver made a U-turn at Weigel’s and then got onto I-40 westbound reaching speeds of over 100 mph. The suspect then got off at exit 424 in Jefferson County where deputies forced the suspect into the median and brought the chase to a halt. The suspect was then taken into custody and appeared to be highly impaired. The sheriff’s office says more details about this pursuit will be released later.
