More Details Released On Multi-County Pursuit Of Drunk Driver
The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office has released more details about the multi-county police chase Monday night involving a drunk driver who tried to run numerous other vehicles off the road.
Monday night, Sevier County authorities alerted Cocke County law enforcement that 25 year old Dawson Lane of Bogard Road in Newport was driving a 2006 Kia Sedona coming from Gatlinburg on Hooper Highway. The alert stated that Lane was driving under the influence and was trying to run other motorists off the road. Cocke County deputies began pursuing Lane at Cosby Highway and Middle Creek Road. Lane turned onto Cosby Highway heading towards Newport initially driving in the opposing lane of traffic. Lane then turned onto Bogard Road, Friendship Road, English Mo0untain Road and then back onto Cosby Hwy. Lane eventually led deputies on a chase down I-40 west at speeds of 100 mph. The pursuit ended when deputies forced Lane onto the off ramp at exit 424. Lane was then forced into the grass where he came to a stop.
A half empty bottle of of Pinnacles Vodka fell out when deputies removed Lane from his vehicle. Dawson Lane is now charged with four counts of Assault On A Police Officer; Felony Reckless Endangerment; Evading Arrest; and DUI.
