Man Taken Into Custody After Standoff With MPD
A man wanted in both Hamblen and Sevier Counties was taken into custody in Morristown on Thursday after a standoff with police. 38-year-old Roy Ray Herron was wanted for Contempt of Court in Hamblen County with additional warrants in Sevier County. The Morristown Police department’s Criminal Apprehension Unit spotted Herron at an apartment complex in Morristown Thursday. At that time, they attempted to take him into custody, but Herron fled into an apartment where he barricaded himself inside. Due to knowledge of Herron’s violent tendencies, the Criminal Apprehension Unit held perimeter at the scene until members of the MPD’s Special Response Team, and patrol officers arrived. Once additional personnel were on scene, officers attempted to communicate and call Herron out of the residence via loudspeaker, but he was uncooperative.
Following a standoff, officers entered the apartment and conducted an intense search. Herron was finally found hiding in the attic. He was taken into custody without further incident.
In addition to his outstanding warrants, Herron is being charged with Evading Arrest and Resisting Arrest.
