Tennessee In Top 10 Of Teen Traffic Deaths

A new study puts Tennessee in the top 10 of a list that you do not want your state on. Zutobi, which is a website that tracks driving statistics and also helps drivers prepare for tests has ranked the states with the highest teen driver fatalities. According to 2019 statistics, Texas had the most teen fatalities in car accidents followed by California and Florida. But, when you rank the states by a percentage of 100,000 teens per state, Tennessee jumps into the top 10 at #9. According to those 2019 numbers, Tennessee had 77 teen deaths via traffic accidents…but on Zutobi’s scale that ranked Tennessee as having 18.15 teen deaths per 100,000…landing the state at #9. The worsts state for teen driving fatalities was Montana with 32.84 per 100,000. Wyoming, South Dakota, Alabama and Mississippi rounded out the top 5. Massachusetts, New York and Washington state were at the bottom of the list. Alcohol is a leading component in teen fatal crashes…with almost 24% of teens in involved ages 15-21 had been drinking. Speeding is also a factor. According to Zutobi statistics almost 1/3rd of male teens who were killed in automobile accidents in 2018 were speeding excessively.
