Two Charged With Domestic Assault

A man and woman are in custody after a domestic incident that began in Sevier County. Both 38 year old Shannon Best and 45 year old Joseph Stepp admitted to police that their physical confrontation began at a hotel in Pigeon Forge and continued after they got onto I-40 east at exit 407. The incident continues when the two stopped at the Marathon station at exit 432 in Newport. Their vehicle, which had South Carolina plates, was pulled over by police at exit 435. Both Best and Stepp had minor injuries and both were charged with domestic assault. When police searched the vehicle, they found four firearms including a sawed off .310 shotgun with the barrel being shorter than the legal limit of 16 inches. That gun was found to be stolen out of North Carolina.
