Walters State Offers New Course
Walters State is getting set to offer a new course for those who are looking to go into the hospitality industry. This course will provide a technical certificate in hospitality management. The program will prepare students who want to go into the fast-growing hospitality industry and it will feature two specializations: hotel management and food and beverage management. The technical certificate has no prerequisites and can be completed in one year for full-time students. Part-time students can complete the program in two years, taking two courses each semester. the certificate does not require an ACT score or any general education courses.
Associate professor Joe Fall, who is head of the hospitality management course at Walters State says this course will equip students with practical skills and the knowledge needed to succeed in one of the fastest-growing employment sectors in the region. Fall says the classes are part of the associate of applied science degree in hospitality management should students decide to further their education. The hospitality management technical certificate qualifies for financial aid programs, including Pell grants and the Tennessee Hope Lottery Scholarship. The program may be tuition free for recent high school graduates who qualify for Tennessee promise and adult learners qualifying for Tennessee Reconnect.
