Man Arrested After Head-On Accident

One man was arrested Tuesday night in Newport after crashing into another vehicle head on. This happened at the intersection of Cosby Hwy and Jones Circle. 30 year old Dakota Widle turned off of Cosby Hwy and onto Jones Circle where he crashed into another vehicle head-on. Wilde then left the scene in his vehicle. He was found getting out of his vehicle on Converse Street where he tried to run from police, but was caught after a brief chase.

Wilde was under the influence of alcohol, but fought with the arresting officer, including assaulting the officer as he was attempting to put Wilde in the patrol car. Several bottles of alcohol were found in his vehicle along with his girlfriend and her two underage children. Due to a previous DUI conviction, Wilde was required to have an interlock device on his vehicle, which did not exist. He is charged with Assault on a First Responder, Evading Arrest, Resisting Arrest, DUI and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
