Motorcyclist Severely Injured In Crash
One person had to be airlifted to the hospital after being seriously injured in an accident on Cosby Hwy Tuesday morning. According to the Newport Police department, 70 year old Cleta Williamson of Newport was driving southbound on Cosby Hwy at the intersection with Epley Road. Williamson made a left turn towards Cosby Cut-Off Road, but turned into the path of a motorcycle driven by 57 year old Dallas Davis. Davis was thrown off the motorcycle and landed on the pavement approximately 50 feet from where the motorcycle stopped. He had to be airlifted to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville with severe head, chest and leg injuries. Witnesses told police that when Williamson made her turn, the light for southbound Cosby Hwy was still red.
Williamson’s vehicle spun around after contacting the motorcycle and struck a third vehicle that was sitting at the red light on Cosby Cut-Off Road. Both Williamson and the driver of the third vehicle complained of possible injuries, but both refused transport to the hospital. Williamson was cited for disregarding a traffic control device.
