White Pine Woman Charged In Infants Death
A White Pine woman is being charged in the death of an infant. According to Lexington, Kentucky police, 21 year old Laken Snelling, who is a senior at the University of Kentucky, gave birth to a child at home, but then concealed the birth by cleaning up the birthing evidence and hiding the infant’s body in a closet. Police say they found an infant’s body wrapped in a towel inside a black trash bag inside a closet.
Snelling, who graduated from Jefferson County High School, is charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant. She plead not guilty to those charges during an appearance in Fayette County Kentucky court on Tuesday. She was released on bond and ordered to remain on home incarceration and live with her parents. The investigation is ongoing and an autopsy is being performed on the infant to determine the exact cause of death. The Special Victims Unit of the Lexington Police Department is continuing to investigate.
Snelling is scheduled to appear in court for her preliminary hearing on September 26.
