Two Men Attempt To Steal Boat Motor
Two men were arrested Tuesday night in Newport after they illegally entered a piece of property and attempted to steal a boat motor. The property owners, who were an hour away, called 911 around 9:30pm after they spotted two people on camera at their property on US 25E. The two individuals were wearing ski masks and carrying bolt cutters. Deputies arrived and found the gate to the property open. Two men were standing behind a boat. The two men then attempted to flee by jumping into the water. They both surrendered at taser and gun point. 55 year old Walter Allen and 58 year old John Robinson were attempting to steal the Yamaha Outboard motor off the boat. The two had cut the wires to the motor, unbolted it from the vessel and had the motor on the ground. The two had also cut a lock and chain that had been on the property’s gate. Numerous tools were found in the backseat of the truck they were driving. The two are charged with Vandalism over $10,000, Aggravated Criminal Trespass, Criminal Conspiracy and Evading Arrest. The owners say the two men did $15,000 worth of damage.
