LIHEAP Application Period Pushed Back One Month

If you normally apply for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, you will be able to do so this year as well. However, you’ll have to wait a little longer than normal. The Douglas Cherokee Economic Authority says that the state is delaying the start of the program this year by a month. Normally, those in need can apply for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program begnning October 1. This year the state has pushed back that application period to November 1. The program assists those low income individuals with their utility bills. Those in need are usually low income individuals, the elderly or the disabled. The assistance amount will range this year from $174 to $750 depending on household energy burden. Applicants need to meet income elgibility. Eligible households are those at or below 60% of the State Median Income.

The Douglas Cherokee Economic Authority administers the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program for Cocke, Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson, Monroe and Sevier counties in East Tennessee.
