Assistant Dean At MTSU Fired
The Assistant Dean at Middle Tennessee State University is now out of a job after she posted inappropriate comments regarding the assassination of Turning Point USA Founder Charlie Kirk on Wednesday. Laura Sosh-Lightsy, who worked closely with the Office of Student Care and Conduct posted this on social media after the Kirk’s death was announced. We are quoting here:
“Looks like ‘ol Charlie spoke his fate into existence,” she wrote. “Hate begets hate. ZERO sympathy.” After getting some pushback, Sosh lightsy did not back down posting ” Yep. hate begets hate,” she said “Still no sympathy. you get back what you put into the world tenfold.”
Senator Marsha Blackburn saw the post last night and demanded Sosh Lightsy be fires. Today, Sidney A. McPhee, the president of Middle Tennessee State University released a statement saying that is exactly what happened . ” An MTSU employee offered inappropriate and callous comments on social media concerning the horrific and tragic murder of Charlie Kirk. The comments by this employee, who worked in a position of trust directly with students, were inconsistent with our values and have undermined the university’s credibility and reputation with our students, faculty, staff and the community at large. This employee has been fired effective immediately”.
McPhee noted that in Sosh-Lightsy’s leadership role “she oversaw the adjudication of student behavioral matters, her thoughtlessness and lack of empathy mean that no one walking into her office can see her as an objective arbiter of facts. This action had badly disrupted and undermined the university, so we have taken the appropriate steps”.
