Man Faces Drug Charges

A man is facing charges after police discovered he had a hidden pocket containing illegal drugs. Newport police had pulled over a vehicle on Cosby Hwy Tuesday, due to spotting the passenger who was wanted on a warrant. 73 year old Rebecca Denton was wanted for ;probation violation. The driver, 72 year old Eddie Denton was found to be driving on a license that had been revoked in 2019. Both were taken into custody. When Eddie Denton was searched at the Cocke County jail, he was found to have a large amount of cash in his pocket…$2,121.00, which was broken up into different denominations, which is a sign of possible illegal narcotics sales. A further search found that Denton had a hidden pocket in his shorts. in that pocket, a large bag containing multiple smaller bags with a substance believed to be methamphetamine. In total, Denton had 36 grams of the illegal drug in that hidden pocket. He is now charged with manufacture, sale or delivery of schedule II narcotics.
