Be Aware Of New Scam
The Morristown Police Department and the Hamblen County Sheriff’s office are investigating a new scam. According to the police departments, multiple cases have been reported where a victim has either been scammed out of money or the attempt had been made. Investigators say that a man claiming to be a Sergeant with the Hamblen County Sheriff’s Department is threatening people with arrest for not reporting for Jury Duty. The victims receive multiple phone calls. The first call says that deputies are on their way to arrest the victim for not reporting for Jury duty. A second call is then made by the suspect stating he can stop the deputies and the arrest if the victim gives him money. The Morristown Police Department wants to remind all citizens that no law enforcement agency is going to call you asking for money or warning you that someone is on the way to arrest you. Should you receive such a call…simply hang up, then call police.
