CCSO Warning Of A Text Message Scam
Scammers and thieves continue to be hard at work. Some residents of Cocke County have recently gotten a text message supposedly from the Department of Motor Vehicles. The text says that the recipient has an outstanding traffic violation and that you need to make a payment to keep from having your driver’s license and vehicle registration suspended. The text provides a link to click on to get more information and make a payment. The link’s address is tn.org-qyv.life/dmv.
Any official Tennessee state link will be a tn.gov website. Also, anything about motor vehicles in the state will come from the Department of Safety. If you get a text message like this, DO NOT click on the link provided and DO NOT pay them any money. If you think you might have an outstanding traffic violation, go to the Cocke County Courthouse in person.
The Cocke County Sheriff’s office has posted a sample of the text message on their facebook page.
