Man Arrested For Aggravated Assault And Breaking And Entering

A man was arrested on Tuesday (3/31) in Newport after witnesses say he chased a woman with a baseball bat. Police were dispatched to the Krystal’s on West Broadway after employees called for help regarding a woman who had come into their location for safety. The victim stated she had been staying in a building behind Jefferson Cocke County Utility with 37 year old John Shehee. She stated when she went to gather her belongings, Shehee grabbed a baseball bat and chased her all the way to the Krystal’s. Employees locked the door so that Shehee could not gain entrance. Police later found Shehee at the building behind the utility. That building was behind a gated area on private property and Shehee had broken a window to gain access. Police say that a bed, clothes, food and other personal belongings were found in that building. Shehee was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault and Breaking and Entering.
