Multiple Agencies Respond To Bomb Threat At Local Housing Park
Numerous homeowners in Newport had to leave their homes Monday because of a bomb threat. The Cocke County Sheriff’s office says they responded to the Greystone Way Housing park, off of west Hwy 25/70 after a bomb threat was called in to 911. Due to the alleged threat, all residents had to be evacuated from their homes. Cocke County Sheriff’s Office, Gatlinburg Police Department, Hamblen County Sheriff’s Office, Pigeon Forge Police Department, and Greene County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Explosive Device Detection Dogs all responded to Greystone Way.
K-9’s swept the entire neighborhood and after a long search, the scene was cleared after no explosive or suspicious device was found. Residents were then able to return to their homes. An investigation is underway to find the person or persons responsible for calling in that threat.
The Cocke County Sheriff’s office thanked all of the other responding agencies for their quick action and thanked all residents for their patience while the neighborhood was searched.
