Stolen Vehicle Leads to Drug Arrest

Earlier this week Newport police spotted a gray 2021 Chevrolet Malibu in a parking lot on Cosby Hwy that matched a vehicle reported stolen by the Morristown police department. The drive of the vehicle was 26 year old Candace Lampson. She was detained and officers searched the vehicle including a backpack belonging to Lampson in the backseat. Inside the backpack were 6 hypodermic needles and a bag containing a white powdery substance, A search of Lampson’s purse showed another bag of the same substance, plus a cut straw and a tie-off. All total there was over a gram of what turned out to be heroin in Lampson’s possession. She was arrested for possession of a schedule l narcotic plus possession of drug paraphernalia. Morristown police advised they would be putting a hold on Lampson as well with a charge of joyriding.
