Del-Rio Assault Over Argument About A Plate

Cocke County deputies were called to a residence on east hwy 25/70 in Del Rio…Upon arrival a male and female subjects were both laying on the ground. Deputies noticed the female’s arm was bleeding and swollen up from her wrist to her elbow and her lip was also bleeding. The male appeared to be intoxicated, and the left side of his face from his eye to his nose was bloody and swollen. An ambulance was then requested for the male subject. The female was identified as 50 year old Rosemary Shelton…and the male subject was 64 year old James Shelton both of Del Rio. Rosemary Shelton claimed that 26 year old Brenda Shelton of Newport had assaulted her and 37 year old Adam Shelton of Newport had assaulted James Shelton…all of it over an heirloom plate. Injuries to James Shelton were serious enough that he was transported to the Cocke County Fairgrounds where he was then airlifted to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville. No word on his condition. Warrants of aggravated assault have been issued for both Brenda and Adam Shelton.
