Gabriel Turcios Trial Begins In Sevier County

The trial begins in Sevier County today for the young man who stabbed a co-worker to death in the parking lot of the Sunliner Diner over 2 years ago. Gabriel Turcios will be on trial for stabbing Savannah Burford to death after she got off work at the Sunliner Diner in January of 2020. The trial had been scheduled to begin back in December but had been postponed following a filing for a notice of insanity in November. The trial’s postponement was to allow the prosecution time to find an expert witness and allow them to evaluate and respond to the defense expert witness opinion. Turcios had allegedly been stalking Savannah Burford, as they both worked at the Sunliner Diner. The family of Savannah Burford had made known that she was afraid of Turcios. Turcios stated he had been thinking of stabbing Savannah Burford for several days. He is charged with first degree murder and aggravated assault.
