$6,000 Reward Offered For Poaching Incident In NC
An investigation is underway in North Carolina after an elk calf was found dead near Cherokee…it had been shot with an arrow. The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission says that elk populations are not at the level yet where hunting is permitted. According to the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians’ (EBCI) Natural Resources Office, even if hunting elk was legal in North Carolina, elk, like deer, are a protected species under Cherokee code and are cannot be hunted on tribal lands. The EBCI is offering a $1,000 reward and the organization Help Asheville Bears has offered an additional $5,000 for a total reward of $6,000 leading to the arrest of the guilty party. North Carolina officials say that person if caught will be charged with poaching.
