Newport Man Arrested For Narcotics Distribution
A Newport man was arrested Thursday afternoon on I-40. The Cocke County K-9 officer was patrolling the interstate in the area of mile marker 433 when he noticed a vehicle on eastbound 40 that was failing to maintain its lane. The vehicle was pulled over at the ramp to exit 435. The driver, 43 year old Jacob Hoilman told the deputy he was in possession of a knife. He complied when told to leave the knife on the front seat. During a patdown of Hoilman, deputy Jacob Damron found a paper containing a glass container with a crystal residue. The K-9 Wubba was deployed and displayed a change of behavior at the drivers’ side door to the car. 1.2 ounces of methamphetamine was found under the drivers’ seat along with empty baggies and digital scales…signs that pointed to narcotics sales and distribution. Hoilman was arrested and charged with possession of schedule II plus possession with intent to sell or deliver methamphetamine.
