Gatlinburg Wildfire Victim Memorial To Be Dedicated
A memorial dedicated to those who lost their lives during the wildfires in Gatlinburg and Sevier County in November of 2016 will be dedicated this week. This Friday, June 9th at 2pm, a ceremony will take place in Mynatt Park to dedicate the memorial to the victims of the Gatlinburg Wildfire and a tribute to those first responders who braved the flames to help aide those who were in harm’s way. That wildfire broke out on November 29, 2016 and killed 14 people. The idea for the memorial was born in 2017 and in September 2019, Gatlinburg and Sevier County received a grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation to help build the memorial. The City of Gatlinburg and Sevier County kicked in 20% of the cost to create the memorial. The public is invited to attend the dedication in Mynatt Park. Parking is limited, so their will be shuttles available from Gatlinburg Fire Station Number 2 at 309 Reagan Drive. Those shuttles will start Friday afternoon at 1:15.
