Newport Police Called About Possible Drug Activity
Newport police were called to McDonald’s on Cosby Hwy about possible drug activity in their parking lot. Management at McDonald’s told officers that a Nissan SUV had pulled up into the parking lot around 11:30 pm Wednesday night and that three other vehicles had pulled up next to that SUV, a person had gotten out of their vehicle and into the SUV, then shortly afterward, exited the SUV got back into their own vehicle and left. It appeared to be a textbook case of drug trafficking. Officers found two individuals in the Nissan SUV…45 year old Joey Shoemaker and 31 year old Jenna Burford. Officers searched the vehicle and found drug paraphernalia as well as .6 grams of a powder suspected to be fentanyl. Burford was charged with possession of schedule I narcotics. Shoemaker was cited for drug paraphernalia and released.
