Woman Arrested For Breaking Into Apartment

A woman was arrested in Newport Tuesday evening after she broke into an apartment she had been evicted from. An eyewitness told police that 44 year old Joni Rexrode had broken out a window in her old apartment at Terrace Apartments, then exited and fled on foot. Officers spotted Rexrode going through a tree line between Rich Road and Susong St. She was spotted running around a garage and was found hiding under a truck. After numerous verbal commands to come out, officers removed Rexrode from under the truck, she then resisted arrest. She is charged with burglary, vandalism, and evading arrest. She also was wanted for violation of probation. Newport Housing Authority estimated the damages to the apartment to be around $1,000.
