Grocery Tax Holiday Begins Aug. 1
Many of you enjoyed the sales tax free weeknd over this past weekend. I can tell you first hand the Tanger Outlet Mall in Sevierville, that’s the green roof mall, that area was packed over the weekend. Clothing, school supplies and electronics were tax free Friday, Saturday and Sunday for what has become an annual tradition in Tennessee.
Starting tomorrow, the grocery tax holiday begins in Tennessee. That holiday will last for three months through October 31. So what is included in this sales tax holiday…According to the state’s website, food and food ingredients are defined as liquid, concentrated, solid, frozen, dried, or dehydrated substances that are sold to be ingested or chewed by humans and are consumed for their taste or nutritional value. So what is not included? The state says food and food ingredients do not include alcoholic beverages, tobacco, candy, or dietary supplements. The grocery tax holiday begins tomorrow morning at 12:01am.
