Man Arrested For DUI And More

Monday evening Newport police were called out to west Hwy 27/70 in the vicinity of the Love’s Travel Center about a white Dodge pickup that was all over the road. Witnesses told law enforcement that they watched as the vehicle finally left the roadway and struck as fence while they were traveling behind it. Police found the truck in the parking lot of Love’s. 48 year old Jacinto Lopez was the driver who told officer Lindsay Laughter that he had no drivers license nor did he have proof of insurance. There was damage to the truck and grass on the bumper of the truck consistent with witness statements. Lopez was intoxicated and would not follow instructions for field sobriety tests. He was taken into custody and is charged with DUI and several other offences.
