More Break-ins Reported
A couple on Cactus Way in Newport had their home broken into the day before Thanksgiving. The homeowner told police that when he arrived home that afternoon, the window air conditioner unit in his bedroom window was on the ground. He also noticed the sliding glass door at the back of the home was open and there were items scattered in the bedroom and numerous items were missing, including some expensive pieces of jewelry. Some tools were also taken in that break-in. Total value of the items missing is around $10,000.
Another Break-in at a business in Newport. This happened at Hudson and Sons Greenhouses on Cosby Hwy Saturday morning. The owner, Sherman Hudson, told police that he found the back window of the business open and money missing when he entered the building. Hudson stated the suspect entered through the window, stole approximately $400.00 cash and a jar full of change, and then left through the back door. Money bags with the name “Hudson” written on them were found a short distance away behind one of the greenhouses. A video surveillance system at Big Boy’s Country Kitchen next door caught footage of the suspect trying to steal a pressure washer from behind the restaurant. The suspect could also be seen in the footage attempting to use a metal bar to make entry into the restaurant, but was not successful. So far, police do not have a suspect in that break-in.
