Greeneville Man Dies In Motorcycle Accident

A man injured in a motorcycle crash off of I-81 Tuesday has now died. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 53 year old Shannon Johnson of Greeneville died Wednesday at the Johnson City Medical Center after being critically injured in an accident with a tractor trailer on Tuesday afternoon. That accident happened just off of Exit 36, the Baileyton exit on Interstate 81. The THP says a tractor trailer, driven by 32 year old Daniel Soto of Texas, had gotten off the interstate and was making a left hand turn into the TA Truck Stop. That is when Soto turned his tractor trailer into the path of Johnson and his motorcycle, who was headed towards the interstate. The motorcycle then became lodged underneath the tractor trailer. Johnson was rushed to the Johnson City Medical Center where he passed away Wednesday.

Daniel Soto, the driver of the tractor trailer, was uninjured. No charges against him were listed on the report by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
