Arson Suspected In House Fire

The Cocke County Fire Department responded to a house fire east of Newport on Monday afternoon. That fire was at a home on Log Church Road in the Bat Harbor area of Cocke County. When firefighters arrived, they were able to put out the blaze. When Cocke County deputies attempted to get in touch with the home’s owner, they were informed by Newport Police that the owner of that home was under investigation for theft regarding some stolen firearms. Arson is suspected as the cause of that fire, which is under investigation.
