Candidate Qualifying Period For August Primary Underway
The next round of candidate qualifying for the elections this year began on Monday. The qualifying period is now open for county positions like County Commissioner, Road Commissioner, Constable and school board which has 4 vacant seats…districts 1,2,4 & 6. The qualifying period also includes several state and federal offices such as…
Tennessee Governor; US House District 1; State Senate District 9 (Cocke, Greene, Hamblen, Unicoi, and part of Sevier);
State House Member District 11 (Cocke, part of Hamblen, and part of Jefferson); plus, Republican & Democrat State Executive Committeeman and Committeewoman
Nominating petitions for all of those positions have a qualifying deadline of Noon on Thursday, April 7.
Qualifying continues for numerous positions that are on the May County primary ballot…like…Circuit Court judge, County Mayor, County Trustee, General Sessions Court judge, sheriff, Circuit Court Clerk, Sessions Court Clerk, County Clerk, Register of Deeds, and Superintendent of Roads…the qualifying period for those positions ends next Thursday February 17th at noon.
The Republican and Democratic County Primary for these offices will be Tuesday, May 3. Early Voting will run April 13 – April 28 at 157 Western Plaza Dr., Newport.
The August State Primary and County General Election will be held Thursday, August 4. Early Voting will be July 15 – July 30 at 157
