CCSO Investigating Threat Against Schools

Law enforcement will have a heavier prescence in Cocke County Schools this morning. This after a social media post last Thursday threatening that someone was going to shoot up Cocke County Schools on Friday, December 9th and Monday December 12th. Someone posted a screenshot from their phone about the warning and threat on Instagram. That sent parents into a frenzy. The Cocke County sheriff’s office says that misleading information was then shared all over social media leading to panic and confusion. The sheriff’s office says they are trying to trace the IP address where the original post came from. The sheriff’s office stresses that children will be safe in schools today. The sheriff’s office stresses the importance of contacting the sheriff’s office or school system before posting anything on social media. No one has been arrested for the post threatening Cocke County schools, but police are investigating.
