City Council Announces New Chief Of Police
The City of Newport has found their new police chief, and they did not have to look far to find him. After interviewing seven candidates for the job, the city council officially hired Deputy Chief Scott Lamb as Newport’s new Chief of Police at their city council meeting on Tuesday, December 12.
Scott Lamb, an East Tennessee State University graduate, has been with the Newport Police Department for over 25 years. For several years, Scott has served as a detective with the Newport Police Department. Since October of 2022, he has been the deputy chief with the police department, second in command to current chief Maurice Shults.
Scott Lamb thanked the Mayor and the City Board for the opportunity and is looking forward to working for the citizens of Newport. Scott Lamb will officially take over as Chief of Police in January when longtime chief Maurice Shults retires.
