Cocke County Jail Inmate Dies

An inmate within the Cocke County jail has died. Sheriff CJ Ball stated that inmate passed away at the Newport Medical Center Sunday afternoon. The cause of death appears to be from health-related issues prior to being taken into custody and placed in the jail. An autopsy has been ordered and an investigation into the inmate’s death is underway. Sheriff Ball says the inmate was transported to the hospital in Newport at the request of the medical staff in the jail. More details will be released once their is investigation and the autopsy has been completed. The inmate’s identity was not released.
