Fatal Crash Ties Up Traffic On I-40 West Monday
Two people are dead after a crash on Interstate 40 Monday morning. The accident occured shortly after 7am near the Midway Road Exit, which is Exit 402. According to investigators, a Chevy truck traveling eastbound on I-40 crossed the median and struck an SUV traveling westbound along with striking a semi truck. Both occupants in the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the truck was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the Chevy truck to cross the median and enter westbound traffic.
I-40 was closed between exits 402 & 407 for about four hours while crews worked to clear the scene. Traffic that was stuck between exits 402 & 407 was turned around and directed back to exit 407 where traffic was being diverted from the interstate and onto US 25-70. I-40 westbound traffic was backed up at one point to near Deep Springs Rd which is exit 412. The interstate was finally reopened around 11:30 Monday morning.
