Father & Son Arrested In Armed Robbery
Police in Johnson City have arrested a father & son in connection with an armed robbery and the killing of a convenience store clerk. This morning, police announced the arrest of 41 year old Mark Anthony Sexton, Jr. and his son 18 year old Mark Anthony Sexton III. Both are being charged with first degree murder and aggravated robbery. The 18 year old Sexton was also charged with Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Dangerous Felony and Tampering with Evidence. Police had served a search warrant at a home in Johnson City on Monday and authorities confirmed it was in relation to this case.
Back on Friday morning, two men walked into a Roadrunner Market, robbed the store, then shot and killed the clerk, 23 year old Tava Woodard. Video showed that Woodard had appeared to comply with the robbers’ demands, but she was shot anyway. When asked by investigators if shooting the clerk was part of the plan, Sexton Jr. said no and even though he heard the shot, did not know his son had shot Tava Woodard as they were both heading for the door when the shooting happened. More charges could be filed against the two. Both are being held on a $1 million bond in the Washington County jail.
