FEMA Closes Disaster Center In Cocke County
The FEMA Disaster Recovery Center operating in Cocke County is now closed. FEMA closed the center at 7pm last night. According to a release from FEMA, they do plan on opening at another location later. In addition to the Cocke County location, centers in Hamblen and Carter County were also closed yesterday. That leaves centers operating in Greene, Johnson, Unicoi and Washington counties in East Tennessee. FEMA has been operating a Disaster Recovery Center at the Cocke County Recreation Department in Newport since shortly after the flooding disaster on September 27.
FEMA says even though the center in Cocke County is now closed, you can still get assistance by calling the FEMA Helpline which is 1-800-621-3362. Lines are open from 7am-midnight. The deadline to apply for assistance with FEMA is next month on January 7.
