Head Of East Sevier Co. Utility Board To Resign
The President of the East Sevier County Utility District will be resigning tonight when the water board meets. This after the Tennessee Comptroller’s office in a new report suggested the entire board be replaced. The Comptroller’s report comes as numerous residents on English Mountain have renewed their complaints about their water service on the mountain. According to the Comptroller’s report, Board President Roy Ivey operated an excavating business, which was paid for work by the East Sevier County Utility District…which is a huge conflict of interest. In fact the Comptroller’s report says the East Sevier County Utility Board wreaks with conflicts of interest. The utility district’s board is made up of three commissioners, and each is paid for their work on the utility board. By state law however, to receive those payments commissioners were supposed to complete 12 hours of training, and file annual training statements every year. Those statements have not been filed since 2018. The comptroller’s office says that those commissioners should return those payments as they were received illegally. The comptroller’s report also recommends that the entire board be removed.
