Heavy Rain Falls Early Thursday, Strong Winds Coming Friday
Nearly 2 inches of rain has fell in Cocke County overnight. That led to very wet roads, and some ponding on roadways as well. Both Blount and Sevier Counties were under Flash Flood Warnings till 7am. Up to at least 2 1/2 inches of rainfall fell before 4am. This included the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
We will get a break Thursday afternoon, but a storm system will bring us some very strong winds Friday. In fact Friday morning at 7am we will go under a High Wind Watch. Winds of 25-35mph are expected with gusts as high as 55 mph. The mountains will see stronger wind gusts than that. Power outages will be possible with the strong winds, especially closer to the mountains.
