Man Escapes Injury After Being Hit By Car

A man escaped serious injury after he was hit by a car Friday on Cosby Hwy in Newport. The accident happened on southbound Cosby Hwy at Mulberry Street. 51 year old Maureen Obrist stated that she was driving in the right hand lane when she saw a truck that was stopped in the left hand lane. However when she got even with the truck, 62 year old Diego Gukero, whom the truck had stopped to let cross, came walking in front of her and she could not stop in time to avoid hitting him. Gukero was found bleeding from his face and hand but refused to be taken to the Newport Medical Center for treatment. Obrist was not cited.
