Newport Woman Tries To Run Over Man

A warrant has been issued for a Newport woman after a man told the sheriff’s office that she tried to run over him Saturday afternoon. Jake Woods told a deputy that on the way back from Sevierville Sunday afternoon, he and his girlfriend, 43 year old Peggy Hart, had been arguing. He claimed that Hart handed a child in the car a gun and told them to shoot Woods in the back of the head. The child reportedly handed the firearm back to Hart without discharging it. woods claims that Hart tried to run him over on Thurman Road in Newport with a black Kia sedan. Woods complained of pain to his leg and back, and a bruise was noted by law enforcement on his leg. Woods stated that he believed Hart may have been heading to Jefferson County. A warrant has been issued for aggravated assault for Hart.
