One Car Accident Injures 2, 1 Seriously
Two people were injured, one seriously in a one car accident in Newport on Friday. A witness says they watched as a Nissan Altima driving northbound on Cosby Hwy left the right side of the roadway, knocked over a Kiwanis of Newport sign, went down a grass embankment, rolled over, went across the TDOT private road, went through a TDOT fence, crashed into concrete steps and rails before flipping over again and landing on its top. The driver, 64 year old Regina Beason was trapped inside the car and had toe extricated. The passenger, 63 year old Bobby Burgin was partially ejected out the passenger window. Neither were wearing their seatbelts. Beason was able to tell police that she remembered driving but then she woke up and the vehicle was upside down. She was airlifted to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville with possible serious injuries. Burgin, the passenger, was about to be flown as well, but declined medical treatment and was released.
