Police Respond To Quality Inn Break In

Newport police say they responded to the Quality Inn on Cosby Hwy Friday in reference to their office being broken into as well as the hotel’s safe. An employee with the Quality Inn says they received a call from a man claiming to be the hotel manager. That person told the employee they had a FedEx delivery scheduled and need to provide money for it. The man claiming to be the manager told the employee to use a fire extinguisher to break into the office. The man told them to break into the safe where the employee took out cash. The employee then stated they went to the Kenjo Market next door and sent the money as instructed. The hotel manager says the incident cost the hotel about $3,000. So far, there are no arrests in that theft.
