Police Respond To Shots Fired
Police were called to the area of the Newport Towne Center Monday night in reference to a possible shot being fired. While patrolling the area, a man was observed near the Dollar Tree slouched down in his vehicle. The car was a Mercury but the tag was for a Chevy. The driver then pulled out of where they were parked and pulled out of the Newport Towne Center parking lot. It was then that patrolman Paul Weber conducted a traffic stop. The driver of the car was 40 year old Justin Barnes who was in possession of a small amount of meth. Barnes stated he knew the car’s plate was registered to another vehicle and he did not have a valid license…that had been suspended out of Alabama for DUI. Barnes was found to have over a dozen driving while suspended or revoked charges during the last 20 years.
