Traffic Stop Leads To Arrest Of Felon
A traffic stop early Monday morning led to the arrest of a felon in possession of weapons. That traffic stop was initiated when a Newport patrol officer spotted a vehicle on Morrell Springs Rd without the proper tag. The vehicle in question was a Chrysler Sebring, the tag was for a Kia. The driver was 43 year old Eric Dalton who admitted to having a suspended license due to a felony evading conviction. When Dalton’s vehicle was searched, police found 4.4 grams of meth plus two handguns…a 9mm SCCY with 6 rounds and a Smith & Wesson 40 caliber handgun with 10 rounds. Dalton now faces charges of schedule II possession, possession of a handgun by a felon, and possession of a weapon while committing a felony.
