Traffic Stop Turns Into Drug Bust In Morristown
Sunday evening a traffic stop on an impaired driver turned into a major drug bust for Morristown police. An officer had spotted a white Chevrolet Impala driving into oncoming traffic on west Morris Blvd. The car was driven by 21 year old David Machado who was under the influence of a controlled substance and had a cigar type product in his mouth. During a search of Machado’s vehicle, police found a bag of marijuana between the drivers seat and the center console. A Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun also found. In further searching the vehicle, police found a safe. After getting a warrant to open and search the safe, police found a virtual illegal narcotics store. Inside was .98 grams of meth; .76 grams of heroin; 1.64 grams of cocaine; 44.91 grams of THC wax; over 59 grams of mushrooms; and over 3 pounds of marijuana. There was also a set of digital scales…and $1,010 in cash believed to be from drug proceeds. Machado was charged with sale and delivery of schedule 1,2,3 & 6 narcotics…plus possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony…along with DUI charges.
