Truck Runs Into Tree…Driver MIA

Newport police responded to a wreck in the Industrial Road area early Sunday morning. Police came across a Ford Utility truck on Cope Boulevard that had gone down an embankment near Chemwood Way and struck a tree. The drivers side door of the truck was open and beer bottles were scattered throughout the cab and also on the ground. Shortly after police arrived, a towing service showed up to tow the truck saying they had been called to take the truck to an address on Point Pleasant Road. Police called the number that was used to call for service…that number belonged to Jessica Cosby who stated that an unknown man had flagged her down on Industrial Road wanting to use her phone to call for a tow truck. The plates on the truck were registered to David Abrahamson, but the VIN number on the truck showed it owned by John Wice. The vehicle was impounded and police are still searching for the driver.
