Two Armed Robberies Monday Afternoon
Yesterday afternoon Jefferson City police responded to an armed robbery in broad daylight at Security Finance on Broadway Blvd. Police are looking for two black males wearing orange clothing who possibly fled in a maroon colored sedan. Shortly after that robbery, police in Newport were called to two armed robberies within moments of each other. The first was at Liberty Tax on west Broadway, the second at Title Max. The victims at both locations stated that two black men with handguns came into the locations and inquiring about tax forms or out of state loans, then pulled out a gun and demanded money. The victim at Liberty Tax had her wallet stolen…the same for the victim at Title Max. Both locations had money taken from the businesses as well. The victim at Title Max stated that the two men fled in a maroon colored Chevrolet Malibu. Newport detectives are investigating these armed robberies. Police cannot confirm at this time if the robberies in Newport and the one in Jefferson City are connected, but according to Newport Police Chief Maurice Shults they are investigating that possibility. We will have more as this story unfolds.
