Two Dead And A Total Of Four Injured In Two Motorcycle Wrecks In Cocke County
Two people were killed and two others injured in a motorcycle wreck near Del Rio on Saturday afternoon. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s preliminary report, around 3:15pm Saturday, 75 year old Hubert Roberts was driving a 2024 Harley Davidson Trike eastbound on Highway 25-70 just west of Del Rio near Hudson Way when he crossed the center line and struck another motorcycle head on. All riders on the two motorcycles were thrown off the bikes. Hubert Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger on the trike, 73-year-old Norma Roberts, was transported to the Newport Medical Center where she was also pronounced dead.
The riders on the other motorcycle, Bobby and Shawnte Whitaker ages 65 & 47, were transported to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville with serious injuries.
Saturday also saw another motorcycle accident in Cocke County which sent two more people to the hospital. According to the preliminary report from Tennessee Highway Patrol, around 1:30 Saturday afternoon, 47-year-old Jason Wilde of North Carolina, was traveling westbound on Highway 25/70 when he failed to maintain his lane, and hit the side of a utility truck that was going eastbound. The impact sent Wilde’s motorcycle down on to its side where he then slid into a Lincoln Navigator that was traveling behind the utility truck in the eastbound lane. Wilde and his passenger were both injured in the crash, but no other injuries were reported. The THP says charges are pending against Jason Wild
