Two Women Arrested On Drug Charges

Two women were arrested in Newport over the weekend. Police had spotted a vehicle at Weigel’s on Cosby Hwy that matched the description of a vehicle stolen from Enterprise Car Rental back in mid-August. A woman came up to the vehicle with keys. She was 20 year old Lauryn Eastridge. She stated she knew the car was from Enterprise and that is was past due to return. In the vehicle was another female identified as 27 year old Josia Messer. She was in possession of syringes but stated they were for diabetes. However, a search of the vehicle found over 6 grams of heroin and fentanyl. At the jail, Messer was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine, and Eastridge tried to dispose of a piece of paper containing 3 grams of heroin. Both women were booked into the jail on possession charges as well as introduction of contraband into a penal facility.
